C19 to C20 Power Cord: 15A, 18A and Multiple Colour Options

When ordering power cords for a server rack, connector compatibility is only part of the decision. The complete cable rating, length and identification scheme also need to suit the installation.

A C19 to C20 power cord, also called a C19 to C20 power cable, is used to connect compatible equipment to a suitable power distribution unit (PDU) or uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The Legacy offers 15A and 18A options in multiple colours, helping buyers specify cables for their rack requirements.

Understanding the C19 and C20 connectors

A C19-to-C20 cord has:

  • C19 female connector: connects to equipment with a matching C20 inlet.
  • C20 male plug: connects to a compatible C19 outlet on the power source.

Suppliers may describe the same arrangement as “C19 to C20” or “C20 to C19.” Confirm the connector at each end before ordering.

These connectors are different from C13 and C14. A C19-to-C20 cable is not a direct replacement for a C13-to-C14 cable unless the equipment and power-source connections are designed for that arrangement.

Where are C19 to C20 power cords used?

C19/C20 connections are found in compatible server, network and power-distribution equipment. Applications can include rack servers, suitable network devices and equipment requiring this connector arrangement.

A typical connection runs from a C19 outlet on a PDU to a C20 inlet on the device. Some UPS systems also provide suitable output sockets, but the exact model must be checked.

Do not assume that every high-power device uses C19/C20. The equipment manufacturer’s specified connection and electrical requirements decide the correct cord.

The Legacy’s 15A and 18A options

The Legacy can supply C19 to C20 power cords in 15A and 18A options, with multiple colours available.

When enquiring, share your operating voltage, required current, equipment model and installation requirements. Confirm the documented rating and applicable approvals of the complete cord assembly before selecting either option.

The C19/C20 designation identifies the connector arrangement; it does not, by itself, establish an 18A rating for every cord or installation. The connectors, cable and assembly documentation must support the intended use under the applicable standard.

Multiple colours for organised rack wiring

Colour coding can help technicians identify connections, trace cables and distinguish assigned power feeds. Combine cable colours with clear labels and a documented rack layout.

For example, an installation may assign different colours to its A and B power connections. This makes identification easier, but colours alone do not provide redundancy. Separate supplies and compatible equipment are still required for a redundant power arrangement.

Tell The Legacy your preferred colours, quantities and required lengths when discussing an order.

Four checks before ordering

1. Confirm both connector types

Check for a C19 supply outlet and a C20 equipment inlet. If either connection is different, choose the cord arrangement specified for that equipment.

2. Match the complete assembly rating

Compare the selected cord’s documented current and voltage rating with the equipment, outlet and installation requirements. Do not rely on wire thickness or connector appearance alone.

3. Measure the cable route

Measure along the intended cable-management path. Include enough slack for servicing without leaving excessive loops or placing tension on the connectors.

4. Record colours and quantities

For a rack project, prepare a list of required lengths, colours, current ratings and quantities. This makes the order easier to check and supports consistent labelling during installation.

Frequently asked questions

Can The Legacy supply both 15A and 18A options?

Yes. Share your installation requirements so The Legacy can discuss the suitable configuration and confirm its documented electrical rating.

Are multiple colours available?

Yes. The Legacy offers multiple colour options. Confirm the specific colours, quantities and lead time when placing your enquiry.

Is C19 to C20 the same as C13 to C14?

No. They use different connector arrangements. Read our C13 to C14 power cable guide or C14 to C15 power cord guide to compare the other options.

Discuss your C19 to C20 cable requirements

For a new installation or replacement project, ask The Legacy about 15A and 18A C19 to C20 power cords in multiple colours.

Send your equipment connector types, operating voltage, required current, cable lengths, preferred colours and quantities.
