C14 to C15 Power Cord: 10A, 15A and Colour Options for Bulk Orders

The Legacy IEC C14 to C15 power cable

A power cable can look almost right and still be the wrong choice for your equipment. When a device requires a C15 connector, checking the connector shape and the complete cord rating matters more than choosing a cable that simply looks familiar.

A C14 to C15 power cord connects a compatible C13 outlet on a power distribution unit (PDU) or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to equipment with a suitable C16 inlet. It is also commonly described as a C14 to C15 power cable.

What are the C14 and C15 connectors?

The two ends perform different roles:

  • C14 male plug: connects to a compatible C13 outlet on the power source.
  • C15 female connector: connects to a compatible equipment inlet, including the matching C16 inlet.

The C15 connector has a distinguishing notch. This helps accommodate the matching feature on a C16 inlet. Check the equipment manufacturer’s specified cord type rather than choosing by appearance alone.

C14 to C15 versus C13 to C14: what changes?

The supply-side C14 plug can be the same connector type in both arrangements. The main difference is the connector at the equipment end.

A C13-to-C14 cord has a C13 female connector, while a C14-to-C15 cord has a C15 female connector. A standard C13 connector is not the correct replacement where the equipment requires C15.

C15 connectors are designed for higher pin-temperature conditions than standard C13 connectors. However, a C15 end does not mean the entire cord can operate at that higher temperature. The C14 end, cable insulation and complete assembly specifications also matter.

Where are C14 to C15 power cables used?

These cords are used with compatible IT and network equipment in server racks and equipment cabinets. Depending on the device’s requirements, applications can include network switches, server power supplies and other equipment connected to a suitable PDU or UPS outlet.

The equipment model decides compatibility. Not every network switch or server uses a C15 connector, and not every UPS provides C13 outlets.

What The Legacy offers

The Legacy supplies C14 to C15 power cables with pure copper conductors, with conductor-size options from 1.00 sqmm to 2.00 sqmm.

For bulk orders, The Legacy can manufacture and supply 10A and 15A C14 to C15 power cords in multiple colours. Colour options help buyers organise rack connections and identify different power feeds. Confirm your preferred colours and order quantity when enquiring.

These options let buyers discuss the cable construction appropriate for their installation. Conductor size alone does not establish the complete cord’s current rating: the connectors, insulation, assembly and applicable documentation must also support the intended use.

Share your equipment connector type, operating voltage, required current, conductor-size preference and cable length with The Legacy before selecting a model.

Four checks before ordering

1. Check both ends

Confirm the supply outlet and equipment inlet. A C14 plug needs a compatible supply outlet; the equipment must accept the specified C15 connector.

2. Confirm the complete cord rating

Check the model’s documented current and voltage rating against the equipment requirements. Do not select a server power cable solely from its wire thickness or the description “heavy duty.”

3. Measure the actual route

Measure from the assigned power outlet to the equipment inlet, following the intended cable-management path. Allow practical servicing slack without leaving large loops or placing tension on the connectors.

4. Plan identification and maintenance

For bulk orders, choose from multiple colour options and share any labelling preferences when enquiring. Confirm the required colours and quantities for the selected model. Clear labels help technicians trace connections and distinguish power feeds during servicing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a C13 cable instead of C15?

Use the connector specified by the equipment manufacturer. A standard C13 connector will not correctly mate with a C16 inlet that requires the notched C15 connector.

Are “C14 to C15” and “C15 to C14” different cables?

Suppliers may list the same connector combination in either order. Confirm that the cord has a C14 male plug and a C15 female connector, along with the required rating and length.

Are 10A and 15A versions available in multiple colours?

Yes. The Legacy offers 10A and 15A C14 to C15 power cords in multiple colours for bulk orders. Share the required quantity, colour, operating voltage and other specifications to discuss your order.

Does a thicker cable automatically carry more current?

No. The permitted rating belongs to the complete assembly, including its connectors and insulation. Confirm the selected model’s documented rating.
